“Jam Cruise 20,” as Jam Cruise will be known this year, is setting off in Miami in February, closing out two full decades of tropical funk cruises. This year, Jam Cruise will make two stops along its six-day route in Montego Bay, Jamaica and Grand Cayman, but above all, it’s a music festival, with artistsplaying eight stages scattered throughout the ship. Venues on the cruise ship range from typical theater and jazz club settings — which one could almost imagine are like you never got on a boat — to the sprawling pool deck and atrium of the ship.
Artists like Perpetual Groove, Lettuce and The HillBenders will play a mix of rock, funk, jazz and bluegrass. Most artists on Jam Cruise play two shows over the course of the week and otherwise wander about the ship with attendees, mostly for the interactive musical environment, partly because they can’t exactly leave. Venues like the jazz lounge also have impromptu jams from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m.
The real stars of the Jam Cruise, however, are the festival’s signature BBC’s, a cocktail consisting of Baileys, bananas, rum and pina colada mix, which are the drink of the Jam Cruise and might help explain why everyone’s still so happy on day six.
- Several thousand attendees board the Jam Cruise every year.
- Cabins range from $1,149 to $3,999, with single up to quad cabins of various sizes available.
- Jam Cruise starts and ends in Miami, check out Fifty Grande’s guide to the city here.
