Rolling Loud has made a name for itself as one of the largest rap music festivals in the United States. It’s also the site of controversy: Rolling Loud Miami was where DaBaby publicly spouted the homophobic remarks that derailed his career. Regardless, the talent pulled by festival founders Matt Zingler and Tariq Cherif routinely includes prominent artists, like XXXTentacion and Ski Mask the Slump God. This year, rap legends like Nicki Minaj and Big Sean are listed on the playbill along with newer artists like SexyyRed.
Lifelong best friends, Zingler and Cherif began throwing parties together in high school. They later forayed into official live music events with afterparties and smaller pop-up concerts in the early 2010s with then up-and-coming artists like Travis Scott and Kendrick Lamar. Floridians at heart — Florida is home to the Soundcloud rap that partially inspired Rolling Loud’s creation — they began Rolling Loud in Miami in 2015 with rappers Schoolboy Q and Juicy J among the headliners. The festival now tours across the world to places like New York, Toronto, Portugal, Germany and Los Angeles.
Rolling Loud Cali has bounced around California, moving from Northern California to Southern California. But for the second year in a row, this year’s festival will be held in Hollywood Park, the grounds adjacent to the recently constructed SoFi Stadium.
