Sick New World festival is like Halloween in April. It’s where Jack Skellington would go to mosh. Vampire teeth are par for the course here, as are Michael Myers masks and performers drenched in fake blood. Some people call it a nu-metal festival, others call it grunge or industrial, but most people just call it loud.
For a festival that’s only in its second year, Sick New World is already pulling in some heavy hitters. System of a Down, Slipknot and Alice in Chains are all scheduled to make appearances, and past artists have included Korn, Incubus and Papa Roach. An even greater accomplishment might be squeezing over sixty acts into a single Saturday, which means you’ll have to choose between five stages (two of them are the main stages) — or hop around and visit them all.
If one day’s not enough, official sideshows abound throughout the week, both before and after the festival. Front 242, Chevelle, Bring Me the Horizon, Wage War & Nothing More, Static-X, Sevendust and others are playing in either the two days before the fest or the day after at places like Brooklyn Bowl, Fontainebleau, House of Blues, and others.
There’s no shortage of things to do in Las Vegas, but Nevada’s Las Vegas Festival Grounds make it easy to stay onsite by hosting a number of food and drink vendors — everything from Korn Koffee to Island Noodles, with Homeslice supplying the vegetarian options. You could splurge on merch too (but just so we’re clear, don’t expect to find any colors that aren’t black).
