Because ravers are known for wearing crazy outfits any day of the year, they’re bound to step it up for Halloween — and Freaky Deaky Texas will likely be the state’s wildest costume party. Attendees should be ready for lots of light-up masks and gloves, distorted sexy jokers and dead baby doll outfits.
This year’s Freaky Deaky Texas is being held in Austin after Houston hosted the fest since 2018. The lineup is full of that heavy breed of electronic dance music. While wading through crowds of sweaty ravers, you’ll find industrial techno duo Deepfake from Detroit, Inzo, who makes punchy, ethereal sounding beats and Hamdi, who slays in his union of dubstep, UKG and grime. Along with some of the smaller names, Freaky Deaky also showcases some older, bigger favorites, like dubstep pioneers Zeds Dead and trap legend Troyboi.
For electronic music festivals, I always like to remind festival goers to bring ear plugs — these events are known for blasting bass at decibels not commonly found at other live music events. Luckily, they usually do so on really high quality speakers, like Funktion Ones or Hennessys.
