The 18th annual Portland Seafood and Wine Festival is where you can enjoy the bubbly, award-winning Gewurztraminer with a bowl of seared scallops, or wash down some crispy crab cakes with a mouthful of locally-grown Pinot Noir. Oregon’s Willamette Valley, with its temperate climate and rich volcanic soil, is home to some of the most distinguished Pinots in the world, and when you add that to Portland’s proximity to an ocean teeming with Dungeness crab, you get a recipe for a delicious night out.
For one weekend, over 30 of Oregon’s finest vineyards converge on the Portland Expo Center, along with 20 breweries, cideries and other beverage makers. To keep all those suds from going to your head, the food offerings go way beyond seafood to include about two dozen beloved Portland businesses like Six Stix Gourmet Pretzels, Suzy’s Chocolates and Not Just Cheesecake.
The price of admission doesn’t include food and drinks, but you can choose from samples priced between $1 and $15, depending on the vendor. You can also take home a bottle from your favorite vintner — or, you know, a case. And don’t forget to pose for a picture with the giant inflatable crab on your way out, it’s a Portland Seafood and Wine Festival tradition.
