SF Sketchfest 2024

JANUARY 18, 2024 - FEBRUARY 04, 2023
SAN FRANCISCO, CA

THE SHORT VERSION

The breadth of talent at this California Comedy Fest is no laughing matter. *rimshot*

If you really love reading your friend’s spec scripts or if you take your first dates to the Laugh Factory, the SF Sketchfest is the festival for you. David Owen, Cole Stratton and Janet Varney began the comedy festival in 2001 to showcase six San Francisco sketch groups. The trio had found it difficult to stage their sketch comedy in the city, thus Sketchfest was born. The small festival has become a sprawling exposition of some of the funniest people in California and in the country.

This festival stretches over multiple weeks, with comedians small and large. Although named for sketch comedy, you can catch stand up performances, improvised musicals, podcast recordings, theater performances, and film and television tributes galore. This year’s hot tickets include a collaboration between Weird Al Yankovich and Triumph the Insult Dog, as well as appearances by other prominent comedians including Margaret Cho, Rachel Dratch and Bob Odenkirk. Epic Rap Battles of History and groups from renowned comedy school The Groundlings will also put on performances.
