Rock out any way you want in Ohio, the land of quirky rock bands, with Sonic Temple Art and Music Festival’s behemoth, 120-band lineup that mixes old and new artists and a range of hard rock and metal sub genres. The outdoor festival will add a fourth stage this year to better accommodate the madness, brought to you by the heavy metal rockers Judas Priest, as well as 90s-00s alternative metal bands like Staind, gothic alternative and nu-metal groups like Evanescence and mid-2000’s groups like metalcore band Code Orange.
Newer groups include Sleep Token, who started in 2016 but skyrocketed to fame last year. Taking to stage in masks and cloaks (think, heavy metal death eater-esque vibes), the anonymous band blends in elements of R&B, pop, jazz and more into their progressive heavy metal base. The headliner list is just as varied as the rest of the lineup with the bands Disturbed, The Original Misfits, Pantera and Slipknot.
There will be three RV camping lots you can purchase passes for if you want to stay right at the venue. Taking place at the Historic Crew Stadium — once the home of the Columbus Crew Major League Soccer team — you’ll find vendors and organizations throughout the festival grounds as well as art installations, though information on this year’s work has not yet been released. In 2019, the festival’s first year, there was live mural and screen painting as well as an Art Tent with activities. Sonic Temple then took a three year hiatus, returning in 2023 without live artwork, but with a number of large installations displaying a medley of posters, paintings, banners and more.
